He lay beside Beka for long moments in the darkness. She'd said she wanted them to be comfortable with each other. Would she be comfortable if he touched her in bed? Nothing sexual. Just a touch. Slowly, he moved his arm toward her, feeling the sleeve of her gown. The fabric felt thick and practical. He slid his arm farther toward her until the back of his hand was pressed lightly to hers.
He felt her stiffen, then relax.
Nothing sexual, he'd told himself, again. But just the contact of her soft skin against his hand sent a wave of arousal through him. Could it be having the same effect on her? Or was he just so far gone that the merest touch was going to charge him up?
For long minutes she didn't move. Then she turned toward him, slinging her arm across his chest and resting her head on his shoulder. Slowly he brought his arm up, clasping her.
After a moment, she whispered, "We should get to know each other a little better."
"Like how?"
She raised up, then brought her mouth to his, the light contact almost knocking the breath from his lungs. In all his life, he had never kissed anyone on the mouth, and he'd never felt anything that affected him more, not in his lifetime. When she moved her lips against his, he thought he would go up in flames.
His arm came up to clasp her shoulder as she nibbled at him. Then he felt her tongue exploring the seam of his lips. He'd seen tongue action on the vids. He supposed it was meant to be arousing, but it always looked slimy. He wasn't sure he wanted to try it.

They are survivors of a plague, but still didn't know if they would survive the environment on Palamar. Now, twenty years have passed and they feel confident it is safe to begin populating the planet.
Caleb Raider wins Beka Gunnarsen in a lottery. She has traveled to outer space in a futuristic mail order bride sort of scenario.
The couple is awkward with one another naturally. Beka is not sure what kind of man Caleb is. She keeps expecting him to lash out at her or mistreat her in some way.
Caleb is a hard working guy who lost his father in a mining accident. He has been a home steader since his father's death. He hasn't been around a woman since he was a child. All he knows is what he has read in a manual and from watching porn videos.
The couple slowly begins to adjust to one another and are finding they are compatable. However, Palomar is no Utopia. There are dangers and Beka will have to learn the lay of the land. The biggest danger to Beka comes when she comes face to face with her painful past. Will Caleb understand or will he regret the marriage?
Rebecca York is a seasoned and versital writer. She writes romantic suspense, paranormal romance and as of late fantasy and science fiction.
I really enjoyed this short story. I love made up locations where the imagination free to roam . There are no preconceived notions about an imaginary planet and the sky is the limit when writing about interplanetary travel. I also liked how a young man that knew so little about women, had a such respectful attitude toward Beka.
Beka's character was more bold, but also more careful. Once you learn more about her, you will see why.
If you like fantasy and science fiction romance, you will really like this one. This is an out of this world sweet and spicy romantic novella.
Overall this one is an A.

Welcome to life on a frontier planet where day-to-day survival is just as tough as the wild west. Mail-order brides arrive including Beka Gunnarsen who is hoping to escape a brutal past. She's paired with Caleb Raider, a hard-working innocent husband-to-be. Both of them have to learn to trust each other while coping with the demands of farm life and mining an unusual substance. A quick-paced story with two main characters to embrace.
This novella was definitely a treat. Rebecca York is such a skilled writer that her books are always enjoyable, but this one is just such a sweet, sexy, feel-good story that I was actually smiling when I finished it. I love it when that happens. It could have been set in any small town anywhere--the fact it's on a recently colonized planet only adds to the depth of the tale.
hot and steamy adventure action and romance suspense new life between two types of people caleb who grew up majorly different but so did Beka both characters you can feel the attraction but also the shy attitudes they both have in this new relationship to know certain things you need to read this as well as Rebecca's other books i do know for me each time i read one of her books i feel like the main female lead character of hers and can understand how the character is feeling .. buy this book and others and read and then review them and continue to have a action adventure with Rebecca's books until next time read on ...
An all male colony, a ship full of mail order brides, an untested hero and a heroine with secrets. Nightfall twists the innocent small town girl trope on its head with a small planet hero, Caleb, who has never been with a woman. His new bride, Beka, opens up a sensual world to him while keeping her secrets under lock and key. I really enjoyed watching these two develop their relationship and the futuristic world of Palomar. A fun, unexpected futuristic treat of a read from one of my favorite romantic suspense authors.
How could a futuristic story set in Palomar, a colony in space, conjure up visions of the Old West where men are men, women are weary, and the land is sparse and unforgiving? Seems like an improbable contradiction, right? Wrong! Rebecca York's, Nightfall is exactly that and then some. Her characters, Caleb, a scruffy, insecure miner is lucky enough to win the lottery;
one of the new mail-order brides waiting at the dock is his. Beka, a sophisticated woman with a secret past, has decided to leave her troubled life and take a chance on meeting a trustworthy man. Seems like a contradiction in personalities to me.
In matters of the heart, Caleb, since never having been with a woman before, is clueless. Beka is very experienced in this department and becomes the seducer from the onset. If you're counting, contradiction #3. In the final pages of Nightfall another contradiction in life and death strategy occurs. But it wouldn't be right to give away the end now would it? You'll have to read York's artfully written novella to see what happens. Worthwhile read!
Normally, I don't enjoy as much the fantasy and futuristic romance, because so many times they leave out the emotional element of the romance and also don't have a very good plot. I am happy to say, Rebecca York knows how to write an excellent story. From beginning to end, you were right there on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. From danger, to fear, to emotional ups and downs, this book was a true romance that kept on giving the future off-planet feeling of possible unknown dangers that could hid right next to you. Rebecca York is an excellent author, and this was an excellent read. I gave her 5 stars out of 5, cause I read this from front to back in one sitting, and you know, it had to be a great read when you can't put the book down. I think the cover of this book does not give the book justice. It needs to show a hot looking woman with a hot hunk of of a man with abs and muscles that reek of male sexiness. Have fun with this one. I know I did.
